Test Management System

Test Management System

The KCA TestBuilder is a part of the Kansas Computerized Assessment system. It supports a variety of user levels for the management of statewide formative testing. Hundreds of templates provide an online interface for the building and administering of tests, and for the viewing of test results.

Identity, Usability, and Best Practices

This project updates the identity, usability, and browser compatibility of the front-end. I provided extensive WCAG and Section 508 accessibility audits, as well as best practice audits. These audits are a roadmap for updates as well as workflow recommendations that will encourage compliant code.

Innovative Solutions

In addition, I developed several Captivate videos, and teacher support site. Pages containing videos automatically display equivalent text instructions when printed. Teachers who prefer text instructions may easily view the notes. There are other universal design considerations. For example, the KCA TestBuilder pages have a unique style watcher script that will adjust certain styles according to detected browser settings.

Front-end and UX Lead

As lead front-end, user interface (UI), and user experience (UX) designer on this project, I specified user interaction; developed the graphic design and identity, wrote the XHTML and CSS, moved the design towards a table-less layout, updated scripts, identified patterns in existing code that could be updated via script, wrote user surveys, and identified areas where usability could be improved.
