Industrial Design Portfolio

Presents recent artwork and webwork along with industrial design work done during my five year University of Kansas BFA degree, and includes my Sustainable Design project that won an International IDEA2003 Gold Design Award.

This site itself is also a design and coding example. The entire project section is a custom Perl script: Information is stored as XML and delivered with libXML and XPATH, Templates are done with Template Toolkit (Perl), and Apache rewrites provide human friendly URLs.

The standards based design is tableless with a handheld style that provides liquid layout for smaller browser sizes ranging from 550 pixels wide down to only 225 pixels and less. Turning styles completely off provides near text-only display.

In addition, the Home page slideshow provides a unique navigation experience. Use the arrows to flip through featured project images, then select an image to visit the desired project. Upon return, the page remembers your recent selection. Slideshow interaction requires ajax and cookies, and if these technologies are not enabled, the page functions gracefully by showing one featured image and hides the otherwise unusable controls.
